Machine Quilting
After 20 years of dresses, bags, blouses, blazers, skirts, pants, and three wedding dresses, my days of clothing construction were over. In late 1998, I walked into a quilt shop, and as they say, “the rest is history.” All I could say was, “WOW, look at all the beautiful fabric. Addiction, oh yes, to the highest degree. I just couldn’t get enough of that beautiful fabric.
I am the typical “seamstress gone quilter” story. As quilters, we all seem to have that common addiction for fabric, but I have two additional addictions: the love of sewing machines and quilting on a quilt. Maybe it’s the seamstress in me, but I’ve always been interested in “how it was made and put together.” The sewing stitches are what impress me. I guess that would explain the addictions. When I married my best friend Larry over 23 years ago, he bought me a sewing machine as a gift. The beginnings of addiction number two. Along with lots of fabric, I have a nice collection of sewing machines.
It’s hard to believe that in May it will be three years that Larry and I met this wonderful couple from California opening a new quilt shop in Indian Trail, North Carolina. I had just visited the Gammill dealer and purchased my first Statler quilting machine. Aimee and I sat down and discussed what we had to offer the customer and our community. This was the beginning of a wonderful partnership and friendship. Believe me, Larry and I couldn’t ask for better partners than Aimee and Marc.
